Wayne "Kent"'s Story
Life
After graduation, worked as a Longshoreman and a Teamster unilt 1978 when I injured my back skiing at Mt. Alyeska. If was a beautiful spring day. I had a huge Roast Beef Sandwich, a crisp Red Delicious Apple and a thermos of Apple Juice waiting in the car for me. So, around noon or so I decided to race down the hill and eat lunch. Right after the Waterfall is that really large mogul field and I hit them at about mach 5 and waz busting the heads off the moguls when I started to take an unexpected tumble (what?, me fall?, NEVER!), so I took my poles and jammed them into the next mogul to pop me up and the poles (unfortunately) imbedded themselves in the soft spring snow and stayed right there. My hands, being firmly wrapped in poles were trapped. My arms, being attached to my hands, were trapped. The tendons in my back, firmly attached to my shoulder ...Expand for more
and arms, were torn to shreds. And that's how I ended my career as a truck driver. The St of Ak generously supported me for two years to go to school. I started in the Engineering program at the UofA, but quickly became involved in the computer program at the CC. After the first semester, I was running the lab computers and tutoring other students. And that is how I became a computer guy! For many years (until Y2k) I worked in large IBM data centers (banks and hospitals as a consultant - great money - I sure miss it), but there isn't as much new development work on IBM platforms anymore, so I have switch to the MS/Intel platform. I am currently working at Microsoft as a software developer. MS is fast tracking me to a Development Manager position, so I'm learning Databases, then Server Development and then Web Development. I love being paid to learn!
